Shiro was born on Side 2 and has always been a Federation Soilder until he was transferred to the Far Eastern Region to command the 08th MS Team in the Kojima Battalion. Shiro never liked the Zeons after becoming a witness to an attack by the Zeon on a space colony with poisonious gas. His ways are somewhat complicated and becomes even more so with his falling in love with enemy soilder Aina Sahalin.
Shiro isn't taken seriously at first because of his inexperience and sort of naiveness about him. Is naiveness a word? Did i spell that right? Trying to winover his teammates makes him seems a little reckless at times and often comes close to getting himself killed. Learning to grow both as a commander and as a soldier, Shiro begins to realize that war isn't as black and white as his superiors would have it seem. To make the 08th platoon into a team takes more than strategy and intuition, and that is Shiro's ultimate challenge, no matter what may happen. But his tactical ability, and his sincere concern for their survival, eventually win them over. Shiro's affections towards Aina lands him a military tribunial and house arrest from the team but his teammates support him throughout the series.
